Folks are hungry for connection, and it turns out — just about everyone cares about nature, their neighbors, and the sorry state of civil discourse in America! Join Alane to learn the “safe topics” that will give you confidence in your ability to connect authentically with everyone you meet … and reveal THEIR hidden agreement with YOUR progressive agenda.

Eileen Davis

Eileen Davis

Women-Matter.org

Eileen is the co-founder of Women-Matter.org, dedicated to ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment in the unratified state of Virginia. Our advocacy efforts have succeeded in passing the Equal Rights Amendment with bipartisan support in the Virginia Senate, 5 times since 2011. In 2018, despite having patronage support in both chambers to pass, a resolution to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment, was stopped from going to the floor for a vote by both the House and Senate at the committee level. Only one state is needed to finish the ratification process and that state can and should be Virginia that meets the ratification threshold and puts the Equal Rights Amendment into our Federal Constitution! Women-Matter’s goal for the 2019 General Assembly, is that every single attendee to this summit will get involved and contact their State Senators and Delegates, and will come to Richmond “in numbers too big too ignore” to be counted as supporters and advocates. Our online library will give you more information on this most important issue you don’t know enough about. Sign up for action alerts at Women-Matter.org  #TheTimeIsNow

Postcards4VA

I am part of an untapped passionate group of activists taking back our democracy one voter at a time.  I am an introvert impacting individual voters using my words and creativity to handwrite unique heartfelt postcards.  I believe so strongly in the power and community of postcard writing that I joined the Postcards4VA team.  I am also a member of the People Power Fairfax, Fairfax for All coalition and People Power Burke groups fighting for equal justice and respect for immigrants and advocating for everyone’s right to vote.  Since 2016 my strategy is to be on the streets protesting and rallying, calling my U.S., state and local representative to hear my voice, and writing postcards encouraging people to vote for the change and values they deserve.

Lisa Howard

Lisa Howard

Postcards4VA

Lisa is a native Virginian who was inspired to action by the 2017 Women’s March. One week after marching, Lisa started her first huddle/indivisible group. Her home has become “postcards central” headquarters for dozens of women and a few men who cannot sit on the sidelines while women’s rights, health care, equal treatment for all, and so many other rights are under daily siege. Lisa used her professional organizing skills to help create Postcards4VA with Robbin Warner and Krystal Hansen. Their philosophy is simple — reach out to Virginia voters one writer at a time. Last Fall, thousands of writers from Virginia and around the country sent handwritten postcards to 136,000 Virginia voters, stressing the importance of every vote. Lisa and her team believe the handwritten postcards played a major supporting role in flipping 15 seats to Democrats in the Virginia House of Delegates. Lisa and Postcards4VA will continue to spread the word across Virginia through postcard parties and events, working to get diligent, honest, progressive leaders elected. When Lisa isn’t marching, meeting or rallying, she is busy organizing people’s stuff and teaching Nia, a mindfulness movement technique for all bodies.

Maxwell Nardi

Maxwell Nardi

Virginia National School Walkout Protest

On February 15th, the day after the Parkland shooting, thoughts and prayers weren’t enough. We needed change. So, students like Maxwell Nardi began to take that change into their own hands when they saw no one taking action. Maxwell led a coordinated walkout, press, and awareness campaign on gun violence prevention which was shared by the likes of the Virginia Attorney General, Chicago Tribune, Vox, and many more, making front pages across the nation.  To build on this invigorated spirit to make change, Maxwell, assisted in the Virginia March for Our Lives events, both as a speaker and a coordinator. Then, in a partnership with the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence, Maxwell single-handedly led and coordinated the Virginia National School Walkout protest which gained pledges from the Governor, Virginia delegates, and many other local leaders to address and end the epidemic of gun violence. Maxwell has always loved community engagement and social impact. He took his passion for impacting the lives of kids and spreading awareness about important issues to an organization called ImPACT Virginia, which is addressing and preventing child trafficking in Virginia. Volunteering with the Virginia State Police, he has worked to improve local community engagement and foster better relations with the public. He was then given the opportunity to join the teams of some amazing, local Richmond events including TEDxRVA and Makerfest RVA. With these experiences, he created and founded his own Model United Nations organization, SIMUNC, which is working to engage and educate students on local and international political issues.
